Graco Snugride 32 vs. 35?

We're expecting our first child at the beginning of the year. I'm currently getting together my baby registry and I'm torn between the Snugride 32 and 35. As of right now, I have the 35 on my registry with a Graco Metrolite stroller. I wanted it because it got top safety ratings and I know it's safest to keep the child rear-facing as long as possible. My concern is, however, is it realistic? As in, will the child most likely outgrow the length requirements before she hits 35 lbs anyway? And is the 35 considered safer than the 32 or is it just that I can only find more information on it since it's the most recent model? I would only assume that the 32 is equally safe since they're both designed the same, but is that really the case?

I work for NYS as a Child Passenger Safety certified technician and instructor. I travel throughout the state and have seen so many families with so many different choices of car seats.

The Graco Snugride series are a great choice for infant seats, especially the 32s or 35s. Neither seat is safer than the other, as all car seats are required to pass federal safety standards. Each of the shells are the same length, making the height limit the same for both seats. The only differences are that each model may come in different color options and that the 35 offers a 3lb. higher weight limit than the 32. If you can afford to, I would say go for the 35. Yes, your child may outgrow it by height first, but on the chance that he or she doesn't, they can stay rear facing longer than they could based on weight in the 32. Other than that, the two seats are very similar, and the Snugride 32 will serve you just as well. Just make sure they are installed properly, preferably professionally, and you won't have a problem with either.
